The most bizarre claim, of course,  is the use of the word “Green” to describe an asphalt product.

Greenwashing has reached another low!

By what stretch of the imagination can asphalt be called “green”? Asphalt is not “Green”.

What’s more that when compared to ‘Hot-Mix Asphalt’ a study shows that, "The most substantial impact reduction in asphalt can be realized through application of warm-mix asphalt (WMA) instead of hot-mix asphalt (HMA). This yields a reduction of about 33%.” Then how “Green” is Warm Mix Asphalt if it LEAVES 67% of dangerous Asphalt Fume (an inhalable BENZENE a suspected human carcinogen, OSHA Carcinogen) and CRYSTALLINE SILICA (an OSHA - regulated carcinogen) in the environment.

NOT VERY GREEN at all.

If Metcalf Asphalt can call an asphalt product “Green” what else are they capable of presenting as acceptable?

Not enough questions are being asked about the long term motives of Metcalf Asphalt, how they are currently operating, about the zoning approval issues that there are still questions about - and the long term health and quality of life that all this asphalt manufacturing will mean for the people in our community and surrounding towns.

IN FACT this alleged "Green Mix, Warm Mix Asphalt Facility proposed by B. Metcalf Asphalt at plant in East Canaan, Connecticut is NOT GREEN AT ALL!

"FTC's draft guidelines tell companies not to make "unqualified general environmental benefit claims" -- such as calling their products "green." Under current rules, those broader claims are fine as long as the businesses can provide evidence that the product is better for the environment in specific ways. " and "When presented with claims about a supposedly "green" product, most people thought it was recyclable, biodegradable, made from recycled materials or made with renewable materials. Nearly half thought the marketing meant the product was nontoxic, compostable or made with renewable energy, the study found."
